Through a commercial yachting notice published today, Transport Malta has introduced the Small Commercial Yacht Code (sCYC) which will be effective from 01st April 2024.  The Merchant Shipping Directorate has specifically designed the Small Commercial Yacht Code to cater for small commercial yachts between 12 metres and 24 metres in length, engaged in commercial operations, and which do not carry more than 12 passengers.

The Small Commercial Yacht Code aims to better serve the yachting industry by optimizing regulatory standards according to the specific requirements, demands, and technological advancements within the industry. It seeks to ensure compliance with international safety regulations and standards while adapting to the unique characteristics of small commercial yachts.

As from the 01st April 2024, Yacht Owners will be able to register their commercial yachts which fall within the scope of the Small Commercial Yacht Code, with the Merchant Shipping Directorate.

Existing commercial yachts of less than 24 metres in length, already certified in accordance with the Commercial Yacht Code, shall comply with the requirements of the Small Commercial Yacht Code by not later than the yacht’s first renewal survey carried out after 01st June 2024.
